How Will Google Home Change Your Customer’s Phone Experience?
Even when you use the best voice over IP providers around, there aren’t many customers who would claim they love using these systems, despite knowing its the quickest and most effective way to handle and direct calls.
However, the British relationship with calling businesses could be about to take a step in the right direction with the advent of smart home phone technology. Google Home announced the launch of a calling feature back in May, which is now available in the US and Canada.
The technology basically transforms a Google Home speaker into a VOIP system for the customer’s home, meaning they can ask to be put through to different contacts and telephone numbers. Unlike Amazon’s current offering, the person on the other end of the line does not to have the same technology – Echo models can only call other devices produced by Amazon at present.
The technology is extremely clever, adapted to voice commands, so that if one user calls ‘mum’, it’ll be sure to call the predesignated right ‘mum’ for that person.
With the speaker system, in theory calling businesses soon becomes a job you can do whilst doing something else, meaning spending time on hold no longer means having a phone glued to your ear.
At present, Cnet reports that the only service Google Home can’t contact are the emergency services, but it’s not specified how the speaker will deal with numerical commands from calling businesses with VOIP systems. If the technology becomes adopted by the mainstream, how VOIP services adapt will be interesting to see.
