Saudi Lifts Ban On Internet Phone Calls Via Skype/Whatsapp

Great news for anyone who does business with companies over in Saudi Arabia – the country has just announced it will be lifting its ban on voice calls made over apps like Skype and Whatsapp as part of plans to make the conservative kingdom more attractive for doing business.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the ban was previously brought in back in 2013 to help protect society from anything negative that could potentially damage the public interest. But in the last four years, using VoIP business phone systems and similar has become integral for companies engaging in international trade.

Consequently, the government has now said the ban will be lifted in an attempt to stimulate the economy. A statement read: “Access to VoIP (voice over internet protocol) will reduce operational costs and spur digital entrepreneurship – that’s why it is such an important step in the Kingdom’s internet regulation.”

Before this point, many people in the country have been circumventing the rules by using a virtual private network, which makes your PC think you’re somewhere else – and thus not subject to internet rules and regulations in Saudi.

If you’re yet to realise the benefits of using VoIP phone systems, bear in mind that you can boost efficiency at work by using such technology, as well as being more flexible about where you work. You can also make international calls without having to pay extortionate amounts because you can use your new VoIP system anywhere in the world. Give us a call today to find out more!
