Router Locations Can Affect WiFi Speeds!
If you’ve been struggling lately trying to connect your business VoIP phone service, it might well be because of where you’ve decided to put your router.
New analysis from Post Office Telecoms and Opinium Research has found that 27 per cent of internet users in the UK currently don’t keep their routers well away from electronic devices and gadgets, which could have an effect on how well they work.
WiFi speeds can drop if the router is too close to electronics, baby monitors, the TV – and even your fish tank! So if you do work from home and have been having issues, it might be worth moving your router about to see if it makes a difference.
An additional 24 per cent admitted that they keep their router near a window or wall, or at the top of the house, all of which can also have an impact on the WiFi signal. Interestingly, it was also found that two out of five internet users with a connectivity issue said they’ve not done anything to try and resolve it – which seems silly if just moving the router around could make a big difference.
Further research from Which? recently revealed that 53 per cent of households here in the UK have had problems with their broadband service in the last year… so it’s nice to know you’re not alone in this regard!
Slow speeds were found to be the most common problem, followed by price increases, connection dropouts, problems with the router and having no connection for hours or days at a time.
