Majority Of UK Workers Want Flexibility
There’s long been a perception that women, and particularly mothers, are the most likely to want flexible working, but a new survey shows that many British businesses have been underestimating how much having flexibility means to the vast majority of the workforce.
A new study by Timewise found that 87 per cent of workers either already work flexibly or would like to.
In addition, younger workers want to have that flexibility more than their older counterparts, with the percentage among this group rising 92 per cent who already work flexibly or would like to.
Of course, flexible working covers a multitude of things and with advances in technology, such as Voip business phone systems, there are a growing number of roles that can be performed remotely.
Timewise explained that flexible working covers everything from part-time hours and flexible working hours to remote working, seasonal roles and the ability to work from home.
In addition, the organisation revealed that 93 per cent of non-workers who want a job would prefer one where flexible working is an option for a full-time role, or want part-time hours. The company stressed that businesses should be promoting flexible working opportunities at the recruitment stage to help encourage more people to apply for different roles.
It could be that SMEs are picking up on this more than large companies, with a recent report from Huddled suggesting that a growing number of SMEs are making use of Voip telephone systems.
Of course, cloud-based telephone systems are advantageous to businesses as well, because they have low start-up costs and are flexible by nature, allowing smaller firms to tailor their system to their needs.
