Customers With Slow Broadband Should Be Compensated Say MPs

If you are looking for the best VOIP for small businesses after finding slow broadband speeds too much to bear, you could be in for a refund.

MPs have recommended that customers who have not received the broadband speeds that they should have done, should receive a refund, as they have not received the goods they have paid for.

The Broadband 2.0 report is supported by 57 MPs who say Ofcom should go further with the penalties it imposes on broadband providers who do not meet minimum customer service and speed standards.

Is already the case that customers can walk away from a contract if they get consistently low speeds. MPs in the British infrastructure group estimate 6.7 million UK homes have broadband connections lower than the 10Mb minimum the Government aims to have as a minimum standard in all UK homes.

Grant Shapps MP chairs the group and told The Guardian: “It is unacceptable that there are still no minimum standards in the UK telecoms sector to protect customers from protracted complaints procedures, and ensure that broadband providers are fully accountable to their customers.”

Already this year Ofcom have unveiled that they have plans to force broadband providers to compensate any customers who received slow repairs for their broadband, as well as missed deadlines and appointments by their providers.

Despite this the regulator claims that just 1.4 million homes have broadband lower than 10Mb, and this is only in rural areas that are hard to reach. MPs dispute this.
