Home broadband is now a feature in the majority of homes around the UK, but it seems as though people are content to just sit back and accept the strength of the signal they’re getting.

New research from GoCompare Broadband hast just revealed that 46 per cent of Brits, in fact, have yet to test the signal strength of their broadband, despite the fact that nine per cent admit that they think it’s too slow for what they want to do.

The speed of your internet connection will determine how much data you can send and receive. The speed you need will depend on the size of your household and your use of the internet. Quicker broadband means you can enjoy faster download times for watching films on demand, TV and downloading music.

“Faster broadband download speeds typically cost more so, it’s sensible to make sure that the package you sign up to reflects your household usage. However, be wary – advertised speeds are the maximum you could get, in reality they could be considerably slower,” the price comparison site’s Tom Lewis said.

For businesses, it makes sense to go for the fastest broadband speed available so that all members of staff can work productively and get their jobs done efficiently. You can boost the speed of your broadband by securing your WiFi with a password to stop others using it, moving the router and positioning it up high, cleaning up applications on your computer, investing in a powerline adapter, or switching to another provider.
