7 In 10 UK Employees Want Flexible Working
Advances in technology, from improved broadband internet connections to voice over IP services, have helped more and more of us work flexibly in recent years.
While many companies offer flexible working, it appears that the number of people taking advantage of it is still relatively low. New research from Digital Mums found that although seven in ten UK workers would like to work flexibly, only 12 per cent actually make a request.
According to the company’s research, more than half of those who want to work flexibly but don’t believe that putting in such a request would be viewed negatively by management.
They argue that businesses need to start thinking differently about flexible working and understand how it could benefit them, as well as their employees.
Digital Mums revealed that six in ten workers feel they would be more productive if they were able to work flexibly, while 67 per cent stated they’d feel more loyal to their employer.
The Telegraph recently highlighted another benefit to providing not only flexibility in terms of hours and working from home, but also in modern workspaces themselves.
According to the newspaper, investing in high-quality wireless internet at a business premises is more than worth it because it makes staff happier and more productive if they have more control over where and how they work – even if they’re still in the office and not at home.
The publication also argues that creating this kind of culture can help you attract and retain the best talent in your sector – another boost for the company.
